Six Sigma is an extremely effective quality management philosophy that was first embraced by General Electric in the 1980s. Allied Signal adopted it in the early 1990s, but it was General Electric that made it the most popular management philosophy in history.

Six Sigma is a system that attempts to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of all business processes, not just manufacturing or quality. The ultimate goal is to improve profitability, enhance our customer total satisfaction and provide meaningful tools and training to employees in an effort to implement the program and better harness the considerable skills which reside within a business. It has been well documented that Six Sigma enables companies to achieve "breakthrough" improvements in their businesses. That is to say, improvements that are considerably greater in scale than those typically achieved. Additionally, these breakthroughs are achieved much more quickly and predictably.
